Galaxy Formation and Large - Scale Structure a EDMUND

چکیده

During the last few years one has heard exaggerated claims that the observed cosmic structure is inconsistent with the Big Bang theory; for example, that the universe is too young for known forces to have evacuated the giant voids. The discovery of primeval uctuations by the Cosmic Background Explorer satellite (COBE), with an amplitude appropriate for creating large-scale structures, has damped most of this hyperbole (while leading to other kinds of hyperbole). At this juncture it is prudent to re ect on the status of large-scale structure theory. In this article I will review the basic ingredients and observational constraints. I will present a case history of the formerly popular cold dark matter theory, concluding how its failures, combined with observational data, may point toward alternative models in the post-COBE era.

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding  the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and  the distribution of the baryons is gal...

Cosmic Structure Formation

This article reviews the prevailing paradigm for how galaxies and larger structures formed in the universe: gravitational instability. Basic observational facts are summarized to motivate the standard cosmological framework underlying most detailed investigations of structure formation. The observed universe approaches spatial uniformity on scales larger than about 1026 cm. On these scales grav...

Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups

It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...

Formation of Large Structures in the Acceleration Universe with a Hybrid Expansion Law

In the current paper, we have studied the effect of dark energy on for-mation where dark energy exists in the background. For this purpose, we used both WMAP9 and Planck data to study how the radius changes with redshift in these mod-els. We used different data sets to fix the cosmological parameters to obtain a solution for a spherical region under collapse. The mechanism of structure formation f...

Locally Biased Galaxy Formation and Large Scale Structure

We examine the influence of the morphology-density relation and a wide range of simple models for biased galaxy formation on statistical measures of large scale structure. We contrast the behavior of local biasing models, in which the efficiency of galaxy formation is determined by the density, geometry, or velocity dispersion of the local mass distribution, with that of non-local biasing model...
